Before Taking Prozac

If using any of the following drugs Prozac should not be taken: pimozide, thioridazine, or an MAO inhibitor such as isocarboxazid, tranylcypromine, phenelzine, rasagiline, or selegiline.

Prozac should not be taken within fourteen days of ceasing usage of an MAO inhibitor. After ceasing to use Prozac, you should wait at least five weeks before using a MAO inhibitor or thioridazine. If you have any of the following conditions tell your doctor before using Prozac: bipolar disorder, diabetes, epilepsy, kidney disease, liver cirrhosis, a history of drug abuse. In such cases a dosage alteration may be required, or you may not be able to take the drug.

Drugs That Affect Prozac

There are a huge number of drugs which can effect Prozac. Speak with a doctor before taking medicines for pain, fever, arthritis or swelling.

If you are taking any of the following drugs tell your doctor before taking Prozac: alprazolam (Xanax), clozapine (Clozaril, Fazaclo), digitoxin (Crystodigin), flecainide (Tambocor), haloperidol (Haldol), seizure medication such as phenytoin (Dilantin) or carbamazepine (Tegretol), tryptophan (also called L-tryptophan), vinblastine (Velban), a blood thinner such as warfarin (Coumadin), almotriptan (Axert), frovatriptan (Frova), sumatriptan (Imitrex), naratriptan (Amerge), rizatriptan (Maxalt), or zolmitriptan (Zomig), or any other antidepressants such as amitriptyline (Elavil), escitalopram (Lexapro), imipramine (Tofranil), sertraline (Zoloft), and others.

Other drugs besides those listed may also have an effect when combined with Prozac. Speak to your doctor before taking Prozac and make sure he knows about all of the drugs and dietary supplements which you are taking.
